Centre for Ecology & Hydrology monitor the summer drought 2nd June 2005

Scientists based at the Centre for Ecology & Hydrology's research site at Wallingford predicted summer low river flows and groundwater levels across parts of southern Britain six weeks ago.
This week the national newspapers picked up the story. Steve Connor reported in the Independent, “An exceptionally dry winter is being blamed for one of the worst droughts in 40 years”.

Leading scientist Terry Marsh said, “Within the National River Flow Archive we are monitoring the extent and severity of the summer drought on a day-to-day basis. We regularly provide reports to key stakeholders via our series of Hydrological Summaries.”
