Science in Society

CEH recognises the important role it has to play in communicating with the public about the state of the environment and how it is changing.

In its Science Strategy, CEH's goal is defined as delivering world-class solutions for today's urgent environmental problems. The Strategy explains that this goal can only be achieved through collaboration, not least with the public.

Café Scientifiques around the country and organisations like the Science Museum regularly hold public lectures on a variety of topics, sometimes featuring CEH scientists as speakers.

Visit our Events page to find out more about the latest public events in which CEH is participating, and here to read more about NERC plans. CEH publications are available through this website. CEH also contributes towards resources made available by the NERC and Research Councils UK.

School students interested in gaining work experience at CEH should contact the Science in Society representative at the research site closest to their home.

Other schemes which aim to facilitate interaction between researchers and secondary school students include Researchers in Residence and Nuffield Science Bursaries.

As the environment rises to the top of the public agenda, journalists are increasingly looking for expert comments and reports on environmental research. This provides an ideal opportunity for CEH to engage in public debate and increase public understanding of the issues. Visit our News Centre.
